I was waiting there in the Doctor’s office for my Mother’s appointment. An older woman entered the Doctor’s office and went to the receptionist’s sign-in window. She presented herself, saying that she had an appointment. “Name?”, asked the receptionist. “Fromme,” she answered, (pronouncing it Fromm-ee.)

My ears perked up. A few years back, there was a news item about “Squeaky Fromme” being confronted by “the Press” here in Rome, NY, at Wal-Mart. (All of the most interesting things happen at Wal-Mart, right?) I glanced over at the woman, and she smiled. I was curious.

Now that I have one of the modern phones, I was able to do a quick bit of research, and sure enough, I was sitting across from THE Lynnette Fromme. Right here in the town I grew up in, Rome, NY. An infamous, world renown criminal. A (former?) member, and leader of the Manson cult!

Needless to say, I admit that I was, as they say,

“creeped out” momentarily.

So, I prayed about what I should do. A Jerry Springer style

confrontation on my cell-phone video, that would grab some

attention- and bring shame to this ministry! With limited time,

I realized that the wisest thing, and the kindest thing I could

do would be to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with her.

Just then, they called my Mother’s name and we started in

to the appointment. I carry Gospel tracts in my coat pocket.

I simply reached in, pulled one out, and handed it to her

as I said “This is for you.”

She took the tract and said “Thank you” in a serious tone.

While in with my Mom during her Doctor’s visit, in between

listening to the details of her various treatments, I prayed

for Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme to read the Gospel

of Jesus Christ presented in the tract,

called “Heaven or Hell: Which One Will You Choose?”.

She is no more out of God’s reach than I once was, a lost,

unrepentant sinner. Only God’s Holy Spirit can convict us

of our sins and open our blind eyes to the glorious light and

truth of the Gospel.

I am thankful that God gave me the opportunity to deliver the Gospel to her today. Perhaps she pronounces her name in a different way now as an attempt at anonymity. After all, she did serve her time, 34 years in prison. She is physically “free”, but God knows her heart.

If she has not repented from her sins, believed in the Gospel and placed all faith in the Holy, shed blood of the Saviour, The Lord Jesus Christ on the cross to atone for her sins, she has an outstanding debt that is yet unserved. Eternity in hell. Many “good people” who see themselves as morally above ‘her kind’ may be there, just as many forgiven murderers will be with their Saviour in Heaven.
